How Giants could address O-linemen, D-linemen and edge rusher positions

The Giants own 12 picks in the draft, and rest assured a heavy dose of them will be earmarked to bolster their lines. They are in the market for a new right tackle, hoping to increase the talent on the roster and find someone capable of beating out Chad Wheeler. That player could be found at No. 6 but, more likely for the Giants at No. 17, the first-round pick they acquired from the Browns — with the No. 6-overall pick likely reserved for a defensive lineman or edge rusher.

The Giants could find a home for Jawaan Taylor (Florida), Jonah Williams (Alabama), massive Cody Ford (Oklahoma) or Dalton Risner (Kansas State). Williams was a left tackle in college and is just 302 pounds, but extremely sound technically. He could start out at right tackle and eventually replace Nate Solder down the road at left tackle. Their second-round pick (37th overall) could also be a landing spot for an offensive tackle.

There is a glaring need to come out of this draft with an edge rusher capable of getting to the opposing quarterback. It is essential. Assuming Nick Bosa and Josh Allen are off the board, Montez Sweat (Mississippi State) could be the move here at No. 6. Clelin Ferrell (Clemson) is another option.

The roster is fairly well-stocked on the interior of the defensive line with Dalvin Tomlinson and B.J. Hill, youngsters who are keepers in James Bettcher’s 3-4 defensive front. Hill had 5.5 sacks as a rookie. A dynamic presence would fit just fine, though, and Ed Oliver (Houston) — some say a clone of Aaron Donald — or versatile Rashan Gary (Michigan) would be Day 1 starters. If the Giants want to go bigger for more of a run-stopper, either one of Clemson’s duo of Christian Wilkins and 342-pound Dexter Lawrence make sense, though not as high as the No. 6 spot. If, for some reason, Quinnen Williams of Alabama drops to No. 6, the Giants figure to thank their lucky stars and eagerly scoop him up.
