The 34-year-old former host of CNN’s “Inside Africa” has died suddenly in Kenya, according to the network.
Soni Methu, a Kenyan native, was staying at a hotel in the city of Diani on Thursday when she began complaining of severe stomach pain, her sister told the Daily Nation.
“She started looking like she was having a seizure and my sister-in-law rushed her to the hospital but she died on the way. We don’t know much but a post-mortem will be done to tell exactly what happened,” Faith Methu told the Kenyan paper.
Methu hosted “Inside Africa,” CNN’s longest-running feature program, according to the network from 2014-2015.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague Soni Methu,” CNN said in a statement, adding that Methu’s colleagues described her as “incredibly kind” with “a great energy” and “ability to light up the room.”
Prior to CNN, Methu was the East Africa correspondent at South Africa’s eNCA news.
Her cause of death is unknown
