Ann Curry looking to make network news comeback

Ex-“Today” co-host Ann Curry is putting her hat in the ring to return to network TV.

Curry, who left NBC’s “Today” morning show in 2012, has had “informal talks” with CBS brass to become co-anchor of “CBS This Morning,” but is really interested in hosting “CBS Evening News” or joining “60 Minutes” as a correspondent, according to a source close to newswoman.

Curry is putting her hand up at the Tiffany Network as newly minted CBS News President Susan Zirinsky considers a shake-up of anchors at the network’s morning and evening news shows, sources said.

Curry, whose exit from the “Today” show was marred by controversy amid rumors that since-disgraced co-host Matt Lauer pushed her out, is not keen to return to morning TV, sources said. She is “interested in something at ‘60 Minutes’ or the ‘Evening News,’ ” one person said.

It could not be determined if Curry is in the running at either show.

In recent weeks, CBS staffers have buzzed about a major overhaul, including moves that could place “CBS This Morning” co-host Norah O’Donnell into Jeff Glor’s anchor chair at “CBS Evening News.”

Both shows are in last place in their time slots as ratings have dragged. This season to date, “CBS This Morning” is averaging 3.2 million total viewers, compared with 4.1 million for NBC’s “Today” and 4.2 million for ABC’s “GMA.”

Reps for CBS and Curry declined to comment.
