The only thing more mundane then Sunday’s football game was the Super Bowl halftime show — with Maroon 5’s dad-rock production getting widely panned.
“This is the Fyre Festival of halftime shows,” ESPN writer Kavitha Davidson tweeted.
The satirical Web site The Onion took a shot at the “She Will Be Loved” rockers, as did Yahoo News.
“Super Bowl Halftime Show Marred By Functioning Sound System,” The Onion wrote in a tweet that was shared more than 6,000 times.
Yahoo, meanwhile, blasted the rockers with the headline: “They won’t be loved: Maroon 5 play it safe with dullest halftime show of all time.”
Not even a shirtless and tattooed Adam Levine, joined by rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi, could save the performance.
“If halftime doesn’t end soon Adam Levine might be naked,” tweeted sports anchor Steve Layman.
Fans of Kylie Jenner were outraged on social media because Scott, her boyfriend, did not propose, as had been speculated.
Cardi B and Rihanna had been asked to perform at halftime this year, but both turned the offer down to show support for former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Cardi did, however, make an appearance in the form of a Pepsi ad — which got her blasted for being a hypocrite.
“So Cardi B won’t do a halftime performance for protest reasons but will no doubt be paid for a Pepsi #SuperBowl ad? Ok,” one Twitter user wrote.
