Alcohol, high speed may have played role in couple’s fatal Dominican Republic crash

Alcohol and high speeds may have contributed to the car crash that killed a New York couple vacationing in the Dominican Republic, according to police.

Authorities in the Dominican Republic say Orlando Moore, 41, was seen drinking before he left for the airport to return home to Mount Vernon on March 27 with girlfriend Portia Ravenelle, 52, NBC New York reported.

The two were late for their flight and may have been speeding on a dark road when their vehicle careened off a cliff, according to police.

Moore made a wrong turn and reversed course just before the crash, police said.

The two were last seen on surveillance passing through a toll, minutes away from the airport.

Fishermen found Ravenelle alive near the crash site; she was taken to a hospital and died on April 4. Police discovered Moore’s body on March 31.

Authorities pulled the wreckage from the Carribean Sea on Friday.
